Construction crews have been finalizing the inside of the Museum to make sure it’s ready for the Grand Opening (August 24). Recently the parking areas have been asphalted and sidewalks are being prepared.

Mayor Paul Winfield cut the ceremonial ribbon with the assistance of COL. Jeffrey Eckstein and Senator Briggs Hopson signifying the much anticipated LMRM grand opening. Over 500 toured the Lower Mississippi River Museum on Friday, August 24, 2012 following the Grand Opening Ceremony.

The Grand Opening of the Lower Mississippi River Museum will be held on Friday, August 24, 2012 at 910 Washington Street, Vicksburg, MS beginning at 9am. The Museum, River Flood Model, and M/V Mississippi IV will be open to visitors until 5pm. The day will include an opening ceremony at 9am at the Museum and a “Meet the Artist” event that afternoon. The Southeastern Archaeological Research, Inc. team responsible for the installations aboard the M/V Mississippi IV will be available throughout the day to answer questions and lead tours of the vessel.

Installation aboard the M/V Mississippi IV is ongoing and will be completed mid-August 2012. The upcoming installation schedule includes the Pilot House boat simulator, interactive kiosks, audio, and information panels throughout the vessel. Staging items are nearly complete and the Exhibit Rooms are starting to fill up as well. Three outdoor information panels will be installed soon – these will have metal “waves” installed the week of the Grand Opening. Be sure to hang around Opening Day (August 24) for the “Meet the Artist” event!
